On this particular day the air was sweet with the rain we had last night. It seemed only pleasant things could happen to you on a day like this, even for a fan of Schopenhauer. I was at the dam by 9 am. Although the walk from the dam to the spot where I took this picture was a mere 20 minute walk, it took me an hour because as I started to descend into the unpaved path which lead to the woods, I noticed how the light from the sun , warm and golden, was passing through the new leaves and long grass. I was inspired to capture the essence of being alive. Every few steps I took a few photos of these passing moments. As Daniel Gilbert aptly summarizes in his book Stumbling on Happiness, You cannot plan to find things that you think will make you happy, you need to be surprised. That is exactly what happened to me.
Up until this moment, I could only see different shades of green and blue and shiny reflecting water and then I reached the 'spot'. This area was running parallel to the Congaree river and clear fresh water was seeping into a small pocket, whereby lay a group of brilliantly purple colored flowers, above which hovered a group of honey bees, the sight of which that can only be described as a fragment of paradise.
I was knee deep in water, when i took this photograph, felt good.
